January 2024 Group Watch: Special Election Update
A special election was held for House District 16, which covers parts of Jefferson and Tuscaloosa counties. This vacancy occurred with the resignation of previous incumbent Kyle South to become CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama. Republican Bryan Brinyark won, capturing 83.36 percent of the vote. Senate District 9 became vacant in October with the resignation of Clay Scofield to become Executive Vice President at the Business Council of Alabama. Representative Wes Kitchens won the seat over two challengers.
